Presented by Susan I. Wranik, MS, MA, CCC-SLP; Susan is a national speaker, author, linguist and medical professional who is passionate about communication, quality of life and giving a voice to others.

Dementia is a journey, not a destination, similar to traveling to a foreign country: different language, different time zone, and different cultural norms. Travels with My Aunt draws on vignettes, real life stories to illustrate proficiency, physical coordination, and recognition/recall of familiar situations, to provide those caring for, living with and loving someone with dementia the tools for productive communication and positive interaction. An upbeat and innovative approach to an unselected travel destination, Travels with My Aunt focuses on how to make the most of your time together on the journey, not when you’ll arrive.

5 participants will be chosen at random to win a Fall Gift Basket.

Please Register By Friday, October 8th

Participants will learn how to adapt their help to match the person’s changing needs and foster more positive interactions throughout disease progression. Dealing with dementia is challenging, but when families and their myriad helpers understand the timeline and cooperate to redesign plans as the person’s needs change, they can provide the right support at the right time—improving life for the person living with dementia and each other.

The Best Anniversary

My husband has aphasia and has lost his ability to speak. It’s very frustrating for him, and it’s a sadness for me too. So imagine my surprise when Artis helped him celebrate our wedding anniversary. When I visited him that day, residents and staff were all gathered around the room, carrying a banner the residents had made—with my husband in the center, holding a bouquet of flowers and a card for me! They even helped him sign his name on the card—something he hadn’t been able to do in years! In a way, it was one of our best anniversary celebrations. Thank you Artis, from the bottom of my heart.
