What’s an Advocate and how do we advocate for the rights of our loved ones? Learn when to speak up and show up as situations arise. Participants will receive strategies for communicating effectively with medical personnel, as well as management and staff at hospitals and assisted living facilities. Information will also be provided on how ombudsmen, elder care attorneys and hospice can help families, and what to do if you suspect elder abuse.

Loretta is a motivational speaker and trainer who has delivered more than 300 speeches and presentations on dementia and caregiving since 2014. She offers a wealth of information and encouragement for her audiences.

A Song From the Past

My aunt had played piano beautifully, but for the past decade she wouldn’t touch the keys. Dementia limited her attention span, so getting her interested in anything has been challenging for herand for us. But Wayne, one of her Artis Life Enrichment Assistants, never gave up. Since she would never come over to the piano, Wayne decided to bring the piano to her! He rolled it over, started tapping the keys and spoke to her about her years of playing. Within minutes, she slowly began to play beautiful musicfrom memory! Everyone was astonished. Now she eagerly plays with another resident for audiences at Artis. Our family is overjoyed!
